An addiction: A
dependence on a substance or activity meaning that the individual
cannot function properly without it. Obviously in this case a
dependence on tobacco. Well actually, a substance know as nicotine
is the addictive substance in tobacco. So in fact it isn't a tobacco

An addiction's stored in the subconscious part of the brain and is
therefore very powerful. The subconscious constantly tells a smoker
that they need to smoke, which makes it so hard to give up.
Willpower comes into play when trying to give up, which is an aspect
of the conscious mind. When the conscious and subconscious minds
contradict each other, stress and frustrations occur. The size
difference between the two is considerable. The subconscious is much
bigger therefore normally wins in the end, so the smoking carries
on.
Many smokers continue to smoke and
justify it by saying things to themselves, such as:
"I can anytime if I want to, I just
don't." or "I'm not addicted, I just like doing it."
If you're a smoker and your saying this
to yourself, you think you're the only one. It's nothing more than a
trick that the addictions playing on you, beating you by letting you
think that you're in control, when really it is.
