Interested in the facts about teenage smoking? Discover these
facts in the following report.
Did you know that around 90% of smokers started before the age
of eighteen, meaning those who managed not to smoke in their
teen years stand a much higher chance of never smoking at all.
The question remains. Why do teenagers even try smoking?
After all don't they spend hours in school teaching them what damage
smoking does to their health. Aren't all the reasons not to smoke
there in black and white.
Well yes they are, in fact if you asked a teenaged smoker what
health risk smoking presents they would probably be able to give you
the answers.
So the question still remains. Why?
A number of reasons.
Peer pressure:
I'm sure you've heard this one before. Someone is offered a
cigarette and can't refuse for fear of becoming unpopular.
Low self esteem:
Very common in young teenagers, smoking may increase their
popularity.
Upbringing:
If parents smoke it must be okay for them to as well.
Experimenting:
Many teenagers just try a cigarette to see what they're like, but
don't realize how addictive they are, until it's too late.
Rebelling:
Unfortunately its very fashionable for teenagers to do the opposite
of what they're told. For those who started smoking for this reason,
all the lectures in school had the reverse effect on them.
Whatever the reasons for starting, teenagers continue to smoke into
adulthood and many suffer as a result in later life.
If you started smoking in your teenage years now may be the time to
give up. Its no good telling yourself that you're not a smoking
addict, unless you can stop smoking completely for a month then you
do have a smoking addiction. Any excuses about lighting up again
aren't valid, they're just the addiction playing tricks on you.
