Best way to quit smoking

What is the best way to quit smoking? This report uncovers the ways to give up smoking and which one is the best way.

The vast majority of smokers wish to become non smokers. But as everyone knows, that's easier said than done. To decide which is the best way to quit smoking it's important to understand why it's so hard to give up.

Smoking's an addiction, a strong habit that's stored in the subconscious part of the mind. That's the reason giving up smoking's so difficult. It's stored deep in the subconscious mind and constantly tells the brain to keep on smoking.

In order to give up smoking, the will to smoke must be eliminated from the subconscious.

Lets now see the different ways to give up smoking and look at the positives and negatives for each.

Giving up slowly

Decreasing the number of cigarettes smoked a day over time. The subconscious should require less and less nicotine until it needs none at all.

Pros:

  • Has worked, in a few cases

  • Cost of cigarettes reduces over time

  • less stress than giving up straight away

Cons:

  • Not as easy as it sounds

  • Many try this way, but have a certain goal say reducing by one a day. That however proves too difficult, so they make it one a week, one a month, one a year and so on. People then get fed up with their lack of progress and give up

  • The risk of cancer doesn't go down as quickly as giving up straight away

Giving up completely straight away (going cold turkey)

Never putting another cigarette in your mouth again and beating any cravings, by using willpower.

Pros:

  • The cost of cigarettes disappears immediately

  • Risk of cancer goes down quicker than if giving up slowly

  • Great sense of accomplishment

Cons:

  • Very difficult as willpower's a conscious process, and will be in a battle against the subconscious (which is much larger). The subconscious normally wins in the end

  • Stressful

  • Hard not to think about smoking

Nicotine Patches.

Using a patch to give yourself the nicotine instead of having to smoke a cigarette.

Pros:

  • Takes away the need to smoke (supposedly)

  • Reduces the risk of cancer quickly

Cons:

  • Doesn't solve the addiction

  • Shown to be highly ineffective

  • Expensive

Hypnosis

Connecting directly to the subconscious and altering habits. In the case of smoking, telling it not to smoke.

Pros:

  • Easy

  • Painless

  • No stress

  • Safe

  • Low cost

Cons:

  • Takes time (although very little)

  • Few know how good it really is

Decide for yourself which is best.
